THE SHAG

You are the shag, but nonetheless

An anthropological microscope

Reveals the secret

In all things essential

You are the closest

Relative of Faroese man

You work and fish and sleep!

It is no wonder, you’ve lived here long

Waves and rain have shaped you now

Into a shrewd and clever fisher

Greenish-black, you loudly dive

Far into the depths of the sea

Surfacing proudly with your prey

It is all or nothing with you!

Like us – ready to fish till you drop

And even at rest, you sleep so tight

Men could lift you off your rock

Devastatingly handsome and proud

The not-so-shaggy shag
