THE HUMAN ELEMENT

A laughing human skull is one of many references to the human being in the works of Hanni Bjartalíð, which even in their abstract form, appear highly humanistic – even odd – a sense which is cultivated and repeated with creativity, sensitivity and humour. Bjartalíð finds motifs and forms all around him and works consistently with a sensuous feeling for the material he is using, which may be painted wood, but equally paper for his drawings and graphics.

The paintings of Silja Strøm feature both figurative and abstract subject elements which are both equally important to her. The works deal with people and their relationships with each other and their surroundings. The same basic humanist approach is also seen in the work of Bárður Oskarsson who creates graphics of curiously twisted and lonely existences in addition to his wonderful and internationally recognised children’s books.
