Concert: Dropi ert tú - ein sangur um lívið

Premiere of the new work "Dropi ert tú - ein sangur um lívið" in Løkshøll

NEW WORK PREMIERED IN LØKSHØLL

Saturday evening 9 November at 19.30 there will be an exciting premiere of the newly written work "Dropi ert tú - ein sangur um lívið" in Løkshøll. It is Pauli í Sandagerði and Sigmund Poulsen, who have collaborated on the new work. Pauli has written the music for women's choir, string quartet, piano and bass, and Sigmund has written the words.

Pauli and Sigmund have collaborated on several occasions on musical works, and forty years ago the work "Jesus og Makedonarin" was performed in the Nordic House and released on LP and performed in Denmark in 2003. In 2011 the work "Infinitesimal Googol" was performed when the school at Argjahamri was taken into public use.

For several years they have had a desire to write more works together and finally another work sees the light of day.

“Dropi ert tú - ein sangur um lívið” will premiere in Løkshøll on 9 November at 19.30. The performers are the women's choir Cantabile, Jóhannes Andreasen, piano, Agnar Lamhauge, bass and a string quartet with Jón Festirstein, Atli Ellendersen, Angelika Hansen and Tóri Restorff Jacobsen.

This is how Pauli describes the work:

“The work is a kind of musical cycle, where the cycle of water - from the source through streams, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, sea and sky and back to the source - is described in musical images.

Both of us, Sigmund Poulsen, have been working on the huge work (approx. 180 pages) for several years, and there have been many side streets.

The idea of the work sprang from the idea of writing a "requiem", and this idea lasted for a long time, but there are many "requiems", and we never found the right Faroese turnover to plant our artistic seeds.

Life is a cycle, and water is in a cycle. Life came from the water, and life is in the water as the water is in life. Here we could create a picture of the cycle of life, which we know so well from our own nature. The idea is to create an artistic experience at a very high artistic level, where music, words, light and atmospheres merge into one whole, so that the viewer becomes part of the work itself.”
