Yggdrasil, founded in 1981, is a Nordic ensemble based in the Faroe Islands.

Kristian Blak is a pianist, founder, and principal composer of the group. He has written several major works in suite form for Yggdrasil, most of which have been released on Tutl Records.

From the beginning, Yggdrasil has had a unique concept. Most compositions are created in collaboration with other art forms or, in some cases, with nature. Musicians who have been part of the group, either long-term or as participants in specific projects, have diverse musical backgrounds, particularly in jazz, but also in ethnic, folk, rock, and classical music. While the works draw inspiration or themes from national heritage, improvisation ranges from free to classical styles.

Over the years, many musicians and artists have supported Yggdrasil's projects, which encompass visual arts, poetry, ballet, opera, concerts in caves; and crucial for the Yggdrasil concept is that the personality of each individual member of the group is heard or seen. This truly makes the sound of Yggdrasil unique.
