FEBRUARY IN THE FAROE ISLANDS

It's February and you're here! Welcome to a scene unlike any other - Is this Narnia, Neverland or perhaps James Bond's resting spot? More of a charming jewel of steep cliffs and waterfalls, offering a sense of total escape from the hecticness of life.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN FEBRUARY

Wondering what to do in a place like the Faroe Islands in February? What to bring, how to prepare? Well first things first, you can expect the weather to be the ruler of your plans and a far less crowded place than your average destination. We promise it will be worth it and recommend you take a look at our list below to get inspired.

Tiny House Watching: Even in winter, the Faroe Islands remain a haven for adventurers. Spot various iconic Faroese cabins, and draw inspiration from the cool design functions used to upkeep these North Atlantic shelters.
Taste the salty Whiskey: Take a tour at “One of the Most Ambitious Whiskey Distilleries on Earth”, according to Food & Wine. Faer Isles Distillery's three charming founders greet you with open arms.

Welcome to our ‘Heim’ (home): Embrace the warmth of Faroese hospitality in the local cafes and bars. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or a steaming bowl of Faroese soup while immersing yourself in the welcoming atmosphere. Say ‘Hey’ to a local, perhaps they can advise on any cultural events or concerts that showcase the rich artistic tapestry of the islands.
Join a Knitting Club: Take up knitting lessons with some wonderful local knitters. It is customary to be in at least 2 knitting clubs when living in the Faroe Islands. Come throw back some tasty cake & tea while knitting a pair of mittens.

Winter Walks: While some trails may be covered in snow, JFebruary provides a unique opportunity for winter walks around the villages. Seek out a local guide for the ideal hike depending on the weather, don your warm layers and explore the breathtaking landscapes, with snow-covered mountains and fjords creating a picturesque backdrop.

TIPS FROM AN ISLANDER

  1. February in the Faroe Islands can be cold and wet. Pack layers, waterproof clothing, and sturdy shoes for exploring rugged and perhaps slippery landscapes.
  2. Stormcation: Always be mindful of the weather prior to any adventure. Channel your inner photographer and capture the wild beauty of stormy seascapes or moody landscapes.
  3. Limited daylight hours. Plan outdoor activities during the brightest parts of the day and use evenings for cosy indoor experiences.
  4. Speak to a local and learn at least four words when ordering your daily coffee (even though we speak English and most likely 4 other languages fluently).
