Running competition

The race is centred around Skálatrøð, where the course is flat and ideal for running, and, not least, very spectator-friendly. Participants from all over the country usually take part, and for many the event marks the beginning of the Ólavsøka celebrations.

The adult race covers 5 km, and runners of all ages and abilities—young and old, experienced and less experienced—are encouraged to participate. The children are never shy about joining in either, and on more than one occasion a new star has emerged from the field to claim an unexpected victory. The children's distances are shorter than those of the adults, ranging from 60 to 650 metres.

The children's races begin at 6:00 p.m., while the adults start at 6:30 p.m., or once all the children have crossed the finish line. Medals for the children will be awarded continuously to avoid making them wait too long.

At Bragdið, we always look forward to the ólavsøka Run and consider it the official starting signal for the ólavsøka festivities.
