The new band Kóboykex consists of Sigmund Zachariassen and Heiðrik á Heygum

Their first album, Wagon Wheels, will be released on June 5, 2026, both digitally and on vinyl, and we are celebrating this with a free release event at Tutl.

Sigmund and Heiðrik describe their music as an exciting blend of country/western and electronic sounds, and they have chosen to call the genre “Countronica.”

Both Sigmund and Heiðrik are well-known names in the Faroese music world, having released albums both as solo artists and with various bands.

Sigmund is best known from his band Joe & the Shitboys, which won Best Band at the FMA in 2019 and the Music Export Award at the FMA in 2026. Multitalented artist Heiðrik is known from his albums Funeral and Illusions, which feature major local hits like “Change of Frame”, “Monster”, and “Hope You’re Crying”.

The unexpected and quirky pairing of Sigmund and Heiðrik came about because they share a passion for old western music. They decided to put their heads together, and the result is Kóboykex. They note that they draw inspiration from the music of Beck, Ennio Morricone, Patsy Cline, The White Stripes, Mirwais, and classic spaghetti western movies.
