Special concert with Martin Joensen
in Biskupsstøðgarður
Martin Joensen is one of the brightest stars in Faroese music, equally accomplished as a lyricist and composer. Songs such as “Ró,” “Morgun,” “Lat meg goyma teg,” “Uttan teg,” “60’ini” and “Svarti ravnur” have long since become part of the Faroese musical heritage. In 2018, the classic “Ró” was even named the best Faroese song of the previous 50 years.
Thirty-six of his musical treasures are included in the Green Songbook. Martin has also written several hymns featured in both the Faroese hymnbook and the new songbook of the Faroese Brethren movement.
Many will undoubtedly remember Martin from the band Vestmenn. However, he first became active in the Vestmanna-based group Fox and later played with Avføringar, a band formed by Faroese musicians living abroad. In recent decades, audiences have primarily enjoyed his rich catalogue of songs through his work as a solo artist.
Among his most prestigious honours are the M.A. Jacobsen Literature Award in 2007 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Faroese Music Awards in 2022. It was therefore only fitting that the young talents at Hoydalar interpreted his songs in the first of several programmes broadcast earlier this year.
As Martin says:
“I will sing and play a fitting selection of my songs, ranging from the very beginning in the early 1970s right up to the present day. I expect we will have a lovely evening together.”
This is a seated living room concert, with guests seated around tables. Each table accommodates four people, so if you wish to sit together, please book your tickets as one group.
The Little Kitchen will be serving light bites, while Fjósið will offer carefully selected wines and other refreshments.
Doors open at 7:00 pm, giving guests time to find their seats and purchase something to enjoy before the music begins at 8:00 pm.
The concert is kindly supported by Økistónar.
