Café Fríða

Café Fríða offers a cosy atmosphere with delicious coffee and treats, plus a unique Faroese cultural experience in Klaksvík.

Café Fríða is more than a café; it is a food experience and a storytelling café where guests can experience the culture of the Northern Faroe Islands.

The café is named after the first ship built by the Faroese people. It was pioneer Nólsoyar Páll that had Royndin Fríða built, 250 years ago, Royndin Fríða was built illegally and in hiding. Today, it is recognized to have had great significance for the Faroese people.

The café is located in Biskupstorg, in the centre of Klaksvík, at the bottom of the Baytown's bay. This is where Royndin Fríða laid dock between trips to Europe.
Nólsoyar Páll built his home and boathouses near Biskupstorg. They are now being rebuilt and restored as museums and monuments.

A team of younger and older men and women runs the café. The staff is friendly, well-trained and, if possible, always willing to chat and share local stories with guests.

Café Fríða welcomed its first guests on the 1st of March 2014.
