Double concert — rock, folk and indie melt together

On Friday evening, 9 October at 21:00, there will be a double concert at Listastovan with the Danish group The Mukherjee Development and our own Lyon.

In a world marked by division and insecurity, The Mukherjee Development write songs about what binds us together.

"Denmark's answer to Coldplay – only better than the original," wrote GAFFA in a five-star review of one of the band's concerts.

Frontman Oscar Mukherjee has Danish, American and Indian roots and grew up in California. The songs deal with identity, love, friendship and longing, and are carried by a voice that is both vulnerable and powerful.

The music moves between poetic folk, driving guitar rock and big, cinematic heights. Think of the raw strength of Neil Young, the spaciousness of The War on Drugs and the intimate presence of Phoebe Bridgers – but with a distinctly Nordic flavor.

With more than 200 concerts, The Mukherjee Development have truly made their mark on the Danish music scene. Among other things, the band has played at NorthSide, Tønder Festival and Smukfest, performed live on Go' Morgen Danmark, and been played extensively on DR P4, P5 and P6.

On their latest album, Square Up on a Curve (2025), most of the songs were written by the band together. This comes through in a stronger energy, where sweeping britpop tracks, indie and folk music, and pure rock come together into one shared sound.

Lyon
With his distinctive voice and a raw, intimate delivery, Lyon Hansen creates songs that draw inspiration from both Faroese nature and American blues and folk music.

In his music, the quiet and tender meets the dark and unpolished. The songs deal with love, loss, longing and all the feelings that are hard to put into words. Out of this, Lyon builds his own musical world, where folk, blues, indie and rock flow together.

His influences range from Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen to Bob Dylan, Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson and Dave Van Ronk. Yet the music is entirely his own – rooted in the Faroe Islands and carried by a voice that can be both understated and powerful.

Lyon has played at festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, G! Festival and Nordklang Festival, and has also received recognition from BBC Introducing.

At the concert at Listastovan, he will be playing songs from the release Skull-sized Kingdom, older folk songs, and other material from his songbook. Among the songs, you'll certainly also hear Summar nætur, Leið 400 and Kom heim við mær.

Joining Lyon will be bassist Karl Andrias Stórá. Together they'll take the stage with a stripped-back, present lineup, where the voice, the songs and the interplay are allowed to stand front and center.
