Christmas Soul (Christmas and release concert)
The five of them - invite you once again to the annual Christmas show, JÓLASOUL!
Jasmin Mote (jazzygold), Marianna W. Nagata (Marianna Winter), Dania O. Tausen, Katrina Olsen (Katari), and Anna Sofía Skoradal (gówa) + SWAY invite you once again to JÓLASOUL!
This year's concert is particularly special, as it marks the fifth consecutive year of JÓLASOUL. To celebrate, they have decided to release a brand-new Faroese Christmas album (LP and CD).
About JÓLASOUL and the new release:
For the past four years, they have organized their own Christmas concert under the name JÓLASOUL. They have performed to full houses at Reinsarínið (three times) and also at Norðurlandahúsinum. In the first year, Tamara Mneney also participated, and last year, Anna Sofía Skoradal, the winner of Sement, joined for the fourth JÓLASOUL.
All of them are among the leading singers in the Faroe Islands right now, and some of the youngest on the professional music scene, involved in various music projects under their own names and in different groups.
The strength of JÓLASOUL lies in the diversity they all bring, which blends beautifully on stage and in the soundscape. They always perform their own arrangements of various Christmas songs in Faroese, Norwegian, English, Danish, and one year they even sang an Icelandic song. In addition to arranging the music and translating the lyrics, they also create a lot through their own choral arrangements.
The music will be performed by a large house band, which has changed a bit each year but always includes some of the best musicians in the country. The house band features Vár Miðberg (drums), Elin Maria Hansen (bass), Kristian Pauli Ellefsen (piano), Vinjar Egilsnes Petersen (synth), and Ari Johannesen (guitar). This group expresses playfulness, innovation, unity, and quality. The overarching praise they have received after each concert has been that it feels secure, fun, heartfelt, empowering, and, last but not least, it gets people in the Christmas spirit.
This December, they will perform their fifth JÓLASOUL concert, and they want to make it something truly special.
"It has brought us immense joy to create and perform these many songs for the Faroese people, and now we wish to produce a comprehensive release that gathers several of our arrangements on a Christmas album, which will be released through Tutl and available for sale when Christmas begins in winter 2024."
The music has been recorded and produced by Ari Johannesen, with assistance from others, and has been sound-engineered by Finni Hansen. The album design has been done by Marianna and Dania. The release features eleven Faroese Christmas songs. Among these, four are newly written Faroese Christmas songs created for the occasion.
"The release is a thank you from us to the Faroese people, who in recent years have given us the immense joy of performing Christmas concerts for such a large audience. After receiving numerous requests for recordings of the songs, we believe this Christmas release will be a good gift for the Faroese people..."
