Floksmannadagur

Following the footsteps of the Floksmenn

On Saturday, June 29th, enjoy a special nature, food, and cultural experience in Hattarvík, following the footsteps of the Floksmenn. This event is the brainchild of Gutti Winther and Símun Gullaksen, stemming from their collaboration in “Spískamarið” in 2014.

The trip starts in Hvannasund at 08:45 with a journey on the “Ritan” to Hattarvík, taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes, offering views of Viðoy, Svínoy, and Fugloy from the sea.

Upon arrival, we will disembark at Trøllagjónni, where our hosts will greet us and lead us to the Floksmenn fields by Bakkahjallinum. The fire will be lit immediately for cooking.

A rich breakfast featuring traditional Faroese specialties such as rolled sausage, meat sausage, eggs, and herring will be served.

After breakfast, we will hike up Eystfelli, ascending Knúk and continuing along the ridge. We'll view Bispin (Stapan) and Leypurskorð, enjoying dried mutton and treats from the brewmaster on the ridge. The hike continues down through Líðina and into Uppistovugarðin, taking about 3 hours. Guides will share historical insights along the way.

Upon returning, guests will be welcomed with a drink and delicious soup. Then, we will visit the church before heading to the sheep house at Uppistovugarðin, where the chef will serve ten different small dishes made from high-quality ingredients. Special Floksmenn beer will accompany the meal. Following this, there will be visits to interesting spots in the village before the group follows the chef to the grave mound to unearth the meal.

While the chef and helpers prepare the main meal, there will be music, Faroese-produced schnapps, and the special Floksmenn beer from Føroya Bjór, containing various herbs from Eystfelli.

During the meal, a historian will discuss Faroese food culture and share stories and legends from Hattarvík. The group Hjarnar will provide music and lead communal singing.

After the meal, there will be dancing.

It is recommended to bring a small backpack, good outdoor clothing, and sturdy shoes for the hike.

Departure from Hattarvík will be around 19:45 with the “Ritan”. The minimum age for participants is 18 years. The cost is 1,995.00 kr. per person, and participation is limited.

Included in the cost are:
The ferry ticket on the "Ritan" to and from Hattarvík
All food and drinks
Entertainment
Guides

There is also an option to book a seat on a rental bus, which leaves from the bus terminal in Tórshavn at 06:45 and picks up people along the way to Hvannasund. The bus will return to Tórshavn after the event and ensure everyone gets home. The cost for this is 250.00 kr.
