Church of Saksun
On March 29, 1856, Hammershaimb wrote to the county magistrate and stated that preparations had begun for the church's quarrying work
In 1850, Saksun Church was in such disrepair that demolition and reconstruction were considered. However, the people of Tjørnuvík did not want to travel to Saksun to participate in creating a new church that they rarely used. Instead, they preferred to have their own.
On December 12, 1853, Carl Wilhelm Prytz, the parish priest, sent the king an application from the landowner in Saksun requesting permission to build a church.
The outcome of the application was documented in a letter dated January 15, 1855, stating that the King had approved (in Danish):
1, at der i Bøigden Saxen i Tjørnevig Sogn under Nordstrømøes Præstegjæld paa Færøerne maa opføres en Kirke for nysnævnte Præstegjælds Kirkekasses Regning,
2, at den i Tjørnevig i samme Sogn værende Kirke nedlægges og at en ny Kirke opføres i Haldersvig i bemeldte Sogn..."

On November 14, 1857, Hammershaimb wrote to the county magistrate: Since the new church in Saxen is now nearly completed, I take the liberty of recommending to the high office that the Saxen District be separated from the previously existing Tjørnevig Parish as a separate parish from January 1, 1858,...
The church was consecrated on the 3rd Sunday after Trinity, June 20, 1858.
