A memorial to women who lost their lives while giving birth
In the central park of Fuglafjørður stands a unique ceramic memorial dedicated to women around the world who lost their lives while giving birth. Created by Faroese ceramic artist Guðrið Poulsen of Leirlist, the artwork was unveiled on 17 December 2023.
The memorial is a caryatid, inspired by the sculpted female figures used as architectural supports in ancient Greece. It serves as a reminder of the many women who lost their lives giving life to others.
