The Sand Dunes of Sandur

You’ll see great tufts of marram grass growing in the dunes of black basalt sand

The sand dunes, commonly known as “Mølheyggjar,” are a unique natural feature in the Faroe Islands. Beyond the dunes is one of the best beaches in the country, where locals like to swim all year round. This is a playground for people of all ages. It is also home to rare insects and plants. Due to their biodiversity and biological significance, the sand dunes are a protected conservation area. We kindly ask that you walk on the designated paths.
