Trælanípan
Trælanípan is a stunning 142m rock wall rising from the sea, offering views of islands and the famous floating lake illusion.
Trælanípa is a striking rock wall that rises 142 metres from the sea. From here, depending on the weather, you can see the southernmost part of Streymoy, as well as Hestur, Koltur, Sandoy, Skúvoy and Suðuroy.
Don’t miss the viewpoint for the famous optical illusion, in which Lake Leitisvatn/Sørvágsvatn appears to float high above the ocean — the lake above the sea.
Please keep a safe distance from the edge, as the cliffs are steep.
At the end of the lake, the waterfall Bøsdalafossur (30 m) flows directly into the Atlantic Ocean. From the same viewpoint, you can also see the sea stack Geituskoradrangur.
Hiking Guidelines / Restrictions
Hiking in this area requires payment of a hiking fee.
All visitors must pass through the main gate and check in at the landowners' reception at the trail's start.
Please follow the marked gravel path all the way to the end of the lake.
Finding your way:
From the main road in Miðvágur, turn onto the road by the church. Follow the signs to “Trælanípa/Bøsdalafossur” until you reach the gate and reception, where the fee is paid.
