Myths & Legends

A place is nothing without its shared stories, and the Faroe Islands is packed with them.

Myths and legends have been passed down from generation to generation for centures, sometimes for a very long time before finally being recorded in writing. Visit Faroe Islands has taken it one step further and created audio recordings of some of the most spine-tingling and interesting myths and legends from the Faroe Islands.

Myths and legends are often rooted in particular places, and yet the general themes tend to be surprisingly universal. These myths and legends take place in the Faroe Islands, but are relatable and fascinating as they are rooted in general human experience.

Interwoven with our overall understanding of history are the threads of myths and legends; these shape and colour our understanding of both our past and our present.

Read about or listen to audio recordings of some of the islands’ most well-known myths and legends.
