Exhibition: What is left of us, when we are no longer here?

Exhibition by Christoph & Sebastian Mügge

What is left of us, when we are no longer here? What will future generations think of us and the traces we have left behind?

The Swedish-German artist brothers Christoph & Sebastian Mügge have created an exhibition, Circular Faroe Tales, which harbors a wealth of stories, objects, and imprints left by people in the Faroe Islands. Here you will find everything from used toothbrushes to peeled sheep skulls. The objects are collected for the occasion, while the photos are on loan from the National Museum Tjóðsavnið.

The exhibition is based on circular storytelling and thus follows a cyclical pattern. The story ends where it began and begins where it ended, revolving around Faroese circles from circular salmon farms to waste loops.

Along the way, we are presented with treasures, trash, facts, fantasies, truths, and misunderstandings. Together, they echo mankind's changing values and the sorting process that each generation must undertake to define itself.

About the artists
Sebastian and Christoph Mügge are German-born artists who now reside in Sweden. Sebastian completed his MFA degree at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts in 2011, while Christoph studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and earned his diploma in 2013. As a duo, they realise large-scale site-specific projects based on a combination of found materials and their distinct styles in a variety of techniques. Their exhibitions explore themes such as how conflict affects our everyday lives, the physical and digital traces we leave behind when we die, the challenge of storytelling, and the distortion of historical facts. Humour and alternative realities are interwoven with facts, blurring the lines between truth and fiction.

Together they have exhibited at Space52 (Athens, GR), Galleri BOX (Gothenburg, SE), Galerie Fontana (Amsterdam, NL), Museum Villa Rot (DE), Plateforme (Paris, FR), DG Kunstraum (Munich, DE), The Koppel Project (London, UK), Ostrale Biennale ( Dresden, DE), Sinne (Helsinki, FI), PARTcours Biennial (Brussels, BE), Æther (Sofia, BG), Kunstverein Baden (Baden, AT), Kristianstads Konsthall (SE), Vestfold Kunstsenter (Tønsberg, NO), Södertälje Konsthall (SE), OK Corral (Copenhagen, DK), DAS ESSZIMMER – space for art+ (Bonn, DE), Meno Parkas Galerija (Kaunas, LT), Periscope (Salzburg, AT) and P8 Gallery (Tel Aviv, IL).
