Essentials of Eysturoy
Explore the southern end of Eysturoy and enjoy Heimablídni - homemade lunch
Journey of Eysturoy – Full-Day Guided Tour
Discover the hidden treasures of Eysturoy on this immersive small-group tour through tranquil villages, dramatic landscapes, and rich local traditions. Enjoy stories of the past and a homemade Faroese meal that makes this journey one to remember.
Eastern Villages & Secluded Valleys
We begin with visits to Morkranes, Kolbeinagjógv, and Selatrað—three peaceful villages tucked into bays and valleys. With quiet roads, streams, and sweeping views, these stops offer a glimpse into the serene isolation that defines life in the Faroe Islands.
Strendur & Skála – Past and Present
Travel on to Strendur and Skála, villages where tradition meets modern development. In Skála, discover a hidden waterfall near a scenic outdoor pool and learn about its role during WWII. The village also hosts the islands' largest shipyard and drydock.
Returning to Strendur, we’ll explore its historical importance as a British naval site, now a calm village with colorful hillside homes, a wooden church, and a peaceful lagoon.
Buttercup Road & Toftavatn Lake
We drive the scenic “Buttercup Road” around Lake Toftavatn, winding through the Faroe Islands’ largest heathland. In summer, this area bursts with birdsong and wildflowers. Watch for nesting greylag geese, golden plovers, and the rare red-throated diver. It’s the perfect place to pause, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy nature at its most peaceful.
Heimablídni – Eat Local
End the day with a true Faroese tradition—heimablídni, or “home hospitality.” You'll be welcomed into a local home for a homemade lunch made from fresh, local ingredients. It’s an intimate cultural experience and a wonderful way to connect with Faroese life.
Legends, Vikings & the Subsea Roundabout
Throughout the day, your guide will share local folklore, from tales of Huldufólk (hidden people) to Viking legends. The journey also includes a drive through the Eysturoy Tunnel—the world’s only undersea tunnel with a roundabout. This engineering marvel features a striking light and art installation that turns the drive into an attraction of its own.
This full-day tour is designed for small groups, offering a personal, off-the-beaten-path experience through Eysturoy’s hidden corners. Perfect for travelers seeking authentic stories, beautiful landscapes, and warm local hospitality.
