BÓKADAGAR 2026: Author Talk and Presentation

Most Faroese legends have remained almost unchanged for more than 130 years, since Jakob Jakobsen and V. U. Hammershaimb collected and recorded them in the second half of the 19th century.
Now, multidisciplinary artist Heiðrikur á Heygum has rewritten a selection of 25 Faroese legends and two traditional Faroese ballads. He has given them a contemporary linguistic form while taking care to preserve the essence of the original stories. The legends have also been illustrated with a total of 85 images, all created by Heiðrik himself.
At the literary festival Bókadagar, you can view the illustrations. Heiðrikur will talk about keeping this unique cultural heritage alive and breathing new life into the old legends. Actor Kristina Sørensen Ougaard will give a reading.
