Mykines Day Tour
Visit Mykines the puffin island on our small group tour
Mykines Puffin Tour – A Journey to the Edge of the Faroes
Visiting Mykines, the Faroe Islands’ westernmost island, is a dream for many—and for good reason. Known for its breathtaking scenery and vast seabird colonies, especially puffins, Mykines is one of the most sought-after destinations in the Faroes. Join us on this small-group tour for a hassle-free, unforgettable experience.
Unbelievable Birdlife
Mykines is a designated Ramsar site thanks to its incredible avian diversity. Its puffin colony is believed to be the largest in the Faroes—possibly the world. You’ll walk right through this bird haven, with opportunities to see puffins up close in their natural habitat.
The village itself, once home to nearly 200 people, now hosts around a dozen year-round residents. Despite its size, the village remains incredibly charming with turf-roofed houses and colorful façades nestled between cliffs and sea.
Tour Itinerary
We depart Tórshavn at 08:00 and drive to Sørvágur to catch the 09:15 ferry to Mykines. If weather allows, the boat trip is a highlight in itself—passing the dramatic sea stacks of Drangarnir and the islands of Tindhólmur and Gáshólmur.
Upon arrival, we stop at the local café for refreshments before setting off on a hike. Depending on the day, we may begin by climbing directly from the village to the first viewpoint near the memorial stone, or start through the village and ascend from there. Either route offers spectacular views and puffin sightings.
The hike reaches about 130 meters above sea level and offers unforgettable views of the cliffs and surrounding ocean. We return to the village with time to explore more before the ferry departs at 14:00. Arrival in Tórshavn is around 16:00.
Important Notes
To reach Mykines village from the ferry, a stair climb to 30 meters elevation is required.
The trail to Mykineshólmur is currently closed due to a landslide, but other spectacular viewpoints remain accessible.
Ferry availability dictates tour availability. If ferry tickets are sold out, you’ll receive a full refund.
Weather & Flexibility
Ferry cancellations due to sea conditions can happen. If canceled before departure, we’ll retain only 600 DKK per person to cover costs. If canceled after the tour starts, no refund is possible, but we’ll arrange an alternative tour. Participants must agree to these terms and remain flexible, as conservation measures or unforeseen events may require last-minute itinerary changes.
This tour is perfect for nature lovers and birdwatchers seeking a close encounter with puffins in one of the most remote and magical corners of the Faroe Islands.
