The Ruth Smith Art museum

open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

The Ruth Smith Art Museum in Vágur is open during the summer season on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 3–5 PM, and otherwise by appointment.
The museum is located in the Gamli Skúli (the yellow and brown building) at Vágsvegur 101, right by the shops in the western part of town, known as Gørðini.

The artist Ruth Smith was born in Vágur on April 5, 1913. Many of her works—often naturalistic and realistic—were painted at Nes in Vágur during the 1950s, until her untimely death in 1958 at the age of just 45. Some of her paintings also stem from her time living in Lemvig and Copenhagen, where she received her education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
