Viking Age Family Days and the opening of a new exhibition for the public.

From 5–7 June, there will be Viking Age Family Days in Gamli skúli in Leirvík, alongside the opening of a fascinating new exhibition for the public.

he exhibition is based on artefacts uncovered during the archaeological excavations at Toftanes, where more than 3,000 objects from the Viking Age were discovered. A selection of these remarkable finds will be on display.

To accompany the exhibition, visiting Vikings will bring history to life through engaging activities and games inspired by the artefacts on display.

Visitors will have the opportunity to:

carve a spindle shaft
make clay beads and gaming pieces
create beeswax candles
grind grain and bake flatbread
learn how to spin using a hand spindle
try their hand at hnefatafl (the Viking board game) and other traditional games

Coffee and tea will be available, and admission is free of charge.

To mark the occasion, both Lávusarhús and the Boat and Art Museum will have extended opening hours from 5–7 June.
