Wonders of Vágar
Visit Gásadalur, Múlafossur, Bøur and hike to Trælanípan and the floating lake.
Wonders of Vágar Island – Full-Day Adventure
Discover some of the most captivating landscapes in the Faroe Islands on this unforgettable full-day tour. Highlights include the famous “hovering lake” at Trælanípan, the legendary slave cliff, the majestic Múlafossur Waterfall, and the scenic village of Gásadalur — all set against the backdrop of Vágar Island’s rich folklore and dramatic nature.
Scenic Mountain Views
Pick-up begins at 09:00 in Tórshavn. We’ll drive the old mountain road, stopping at Norðadalsskarð to stretch and enjoy breathtaking views over the fjord. From there, we cross to Vágar Island via the Faroes’ first sub-sea tunnel.
Gásadalur & Múlafossur Waterfall
Our first major stop is Gásadalur, one of the most picturesque villages in the Faroes, home to the iconic Múlafossur Waterfall that plunges into the ocean. This stunning spot featured in the Swedish film The Birdcatcher’s Son, based on a local legend. Until 2006, Gásadalur was only accessible by foot over the mountains, making its isolation part of its charm.
The Hovering Lake & Slave Cliff
Next, we’ll guide you on a scenic hike along Lake Leitisvatn, the largest in the Faroes. The trail leads to Trælanípan, a dramatic cliff offering the famous illusion of the lake hovering above the ocean. This site, whose name means “slave cliff,” carries a dark legend: during Viking times, disobedient slaves were said to be thrown from its 142-meter edge.
Waterfalls, Sea Stacks & Ocean Views
The hike also brings us to Bøsdalafossur, a powerful 30-meter waterfall flowing from the lake straight into the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll also admire Geituskoradrangur, a striking sea stack rising from the waves. On clear days, enjoy sweeping views of the southern isles.
A Gentle Hike with Grand Views
The hike is approximately 3 hours round-trip and is moderately easy, suitable for most fitness levels. Along the way, your guide will share stories, legends, and local insights that bring the landscape to life.
After the hike, we return to Tórshavn, arriving around 15:00 — just in time to relax and enjoy your evening in the capital.
This tour is perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and those eager to explore some of the most iconic sights in the Faroe Islands in one memorable day.
