Bruises

  • "Bruises" is a new play by Bárður Persson and Barbara Hesselager about mental illness and finding one's footing, exploring themes of not fitting in, illness onset, losing oneself, and fighting out of darkness, performed by actors with firsthand experience of mental illness.

A play about mental illness and finding one's footing.

A play about mental illness and finding one's footing.

This is a story about not fitting in. About feeling excluded in the school system. About succeeding. About illness creeping in. About losing oneself. About curling up under the covers and feeling like a failure. About fighting for life. About finding a way out of the darkness.

"Bruises / Løstir" is a new production written by Bárður Persson (FO) and Barbara Hesselager (DK).

Bárður and Barbara met in Aarhus in 1998 attending drama school together. Twenty years later, they meet again and discover that they have more than the world of theatre in common. They have both had difficult childhoods and youth, been hospitalized in psychiatry, and have struggled to find their footing despite mental anguish.

With self-irony, courage, and lightness - and not least actors who have experienced the illness firsthand - the play will be performed at Nordens Hus.

The hope is that the performance can help break the taboo and show how important it is to openly discuss mental challenges.
