Open and Welcoming Home: Our Commitment to Inclusion
In the Faroe Islands, hospitality is more than tradition. It is how we live. When we welcome people to our home, we want it to be where everyone feels safe, respected, and connected—a place that feels like home.
This spirit of openness is nothing new. It is rooted in Faroese gestablídni.
It shapes how we meet one another, share what we have, and welcome guests into our communities.
Tourism allows us to strengthen and share these values. When inclusion is part of how we host, connect, and communicate, it enriches both our communities and the experience of those who visit.
At Visit Faroe Islands, we are working to ensure that tourism across the islands is inclusive in spirit, access, and opportunity.
This commitment builds on the inclusion and accessibility priorities outlined in our national tourism strategy, HEIM, and our broader sustainability strategy, where we have set clear goals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
What We Stand For
Together with local partners, we are working to develop tourism in an open, inclusive way rooted in shared values.
This includes
- Improving access to information, nature, and experiences for people with different needs
- Reflecting a broader range of people and stories in how we present the Faroe Islands
- Supporting tourism suppliers in offering thoughtful and inclusive hospitality
- Encouraging events that are welcoming and considerate of different needs and perspectives
What We Aim to Achieve by 2030
- 100% of tourism suppliers have sustainability policies that include inclusive principles
- All key hospitality partners participate in training to strengthen inclusive and welcoming hospitality, contributing to Gestalyfti, a national pledge for guest experiences rooted in Faroese values
- Accessibility and diverse representation are reflected across all Visit Faroe Islands communications and events

This is an ongoing commitment that will continue to grow through the people who live here, those who visit, and the values we share.
