ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSIVE TRAVEL

With thoughtful planning, you can create a travel experience that works best for you.

Getting here

Travelling to the Faroe Islands is possible either by air or by sea.

Vágar Airport is designed to be as user-friendly as possible, with step-free access throughout the terminal and accessible toilets both before and after security. Assistance can be arranged in advance with your airline if you need help at the airport or during boarding.

The Faroe Islands can also be reached by ferry with Smyril Line’s Norröna. The ferry offers wheelchair-accessible cabins designed for passengers with reduced mobility.

As procedures and assistance may vary, we recommend informing the airline or ferry operator about your needs when booking your trip.

Getting around

Most public buses in the Faroe Islands can accommodate standard wheelchairs. However, this service is unavailable if wind speeds exceed 15 m/s, and accessibility at some bus stops may vary.

Several ferries offer better accessibility, including lifts, accessible toilets, and wheelchair spaces in passenger areas. Accessibility can vary between vessels and harbours, and smaller ferries may have more limited facilities.
For further information, please contact Strandfaraskip Landsins.

Some taxis can accommodate passengers with reduced mobility, but availability varies, so it is best to check directly with the taxi company in advance.
