CLIFF JUMPING

Some people see a towering cliff over the Atlantic sea and think, What a view. Others think, I should jump off that. If you’re in the second group, congratulations—the Faroe Islands is your kind of place.

With our dramatic basalt cliffs, crystal-clear waters, prestine fresh air, and just the right amount of thrill, the Faroes offers an unbeatable mix of adventure and scenery, with seabirds soaring overhead and the occasional seal judging your technique. The water is brisk (let’s not sugarcoat it), but that’s part of the experience. One jump, and you’re more awake than a double shot of espresso.

If you’re up for the challenge, here’s what you need to know.

When & Why the Faroe Islands?

Why do it here? Well, for starters, the backdrop is straight out of a fantasy film—The water is cold enough to make you question your decisions but refreshing enough to make you feel alive. And unlike some places here there are no crowds, it’s just you, nature, and the eternal question: Am I really doing this?

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush that’s as pure as the Faroese air, cliff jumping should be on your list. It’s an unbeatable combination of adventure, breathtaking scenery, and just enough risk to make you feel like you’ve accomplished something truly impressive.

The best time to jump is spring/summer (late April– early September), when the water is at its warmest (a generous 10–12°C). You could attempt it in winter, but here, we recommend you look into our dipping tips

Just remember: The ocean is in charge, and it has no interest in your Instagram content, so do follow our advice on the right.

How to do it (with no regrets)

Always go with a local tour operator – That's all! Because “stranded on a rock” isn’t a fun travel story.

Start small – If the thought of jumping makes you shake in your suit, begin with a lower ledge.

Wear a wetsuit – Or embrace the feeling of your soul briefly leaving your body.

Respect nature – The ocean doesn’t care about your confidence levels. If conditions look rough, save the heroics for another day.
