Traditionally, a large part of the Faroese diet has included resources found on the islands, such as meat and seafood, particularly lamb and various types of fish. These ingredients are still often found on dinner tables all across the islands. However, an increase in demand for vegan and vegetarian food means more of these culinary options are available in shops and restaurants.

Most vegetables and all fruit are imported to the islands as weather conditions make it difficult for these resources to grow.
