See our bird-watching booklet and start your journey. Several different tour operators offer bird-watching tours by boat.

Hunt down a ‘Páksaregg’ (Easter egg): Delight in a Faroese Easter egg hunt just in time for Easter, you won't regret returning one for your loved ones - the chocolate is divine! You will find them at the local cafés and most grocery stores.

Nature's Awakening: Lace up your hiking boots because March transforms the landscapes into a vibrant palette of greens. Explore the trails, witness the return of migratory birds, and breathe in that fresh, rejuvenating air.

TIPS FROM AN ISLANDER

  1. Grækarismessa: On the 12th our National bird, Tjaldrið (Oyster Catcher), returns. This event is called ‘Grækarismessa’ and we celebrate in the capital with music, gatherings, and food - a true Faroese Fiesta!  We welcome this annual visitor with open arms, grateful for the promise of spring it brings.
  2. March and the Tjaldrið's arrival signifies the imminent spring, filling us with hope for the approaching warmer seasons. As the bird makes its characteristic "klipp, klipp" sound, the community is reminded that brighter days are ahead.  So when you pass a local, make eye contact, nod and mutter a semi-silent “Dagin” (Good-day).
  3. Capture the bloom: March marks the beginning of blossoms. Grab your camera and capture the vibrant colours emerging across the Faroese landscapes.
  4. Mingle at Local Pub Quizzes, Bingos or even Karaoke: Engage with friendly Faroese locals and showcase your talents.
