Wellness

Wellness means something a little different out here. It’s less about scented candles and more about letting the wind rearrange your thoughts. Wellness here is where nature does most of the heavy lifting. The wind exfoliates, the sea resets your heartbeat and adds a natural blow-dry, and the views tend to silence even the most talkative minds. Out here, simply stepping outside feels a little like entering a very large & dramatic spa (minus the slippers).

Spa & Wellness areas

Our wellness scene is small but inviting: Step inside and everything suddenly slows down.

RESS Spa is the island’s one true luxury spa; a calm, cocoon-like escape built for slowing down properly. It’s not a quick-stop place, you settle in for half a morning or an entire afternoon and let the world shrink to warm pools, soft light and silence. Whether you’ve been hiking, driving between villages, or simply battling the elements for five minutes, this is the perfect reset button. Every corner is designed to feel intentional and unhurried; a sanctuary where you can breathe, recharge, and simply be still.

Other wellness areas like our public swimming pools keep things simple, no over-the-top “resort vibes,” just a calm space with warmth and people who fully support your decision to do nothing for an hour (or several).

FRIENDLY SPA TIPS

Arrive a little early. Half the joy is easing into it, not running in with your jacket half-zipped.

Hydrate before and after. Faroese air + saunas = you’ll dry out faster than expected.

Pack warm clothes for after. Stepping out into Faroese weather post-spa feels like leaving a womb. Prepare accordingly.

Leave your phone in your bag. Not for mindfulness. Mostly because you will drop it in water.

Listen to the staff. There might be various rules depending on the Spa or wellness area, so just listen and adapt.

Give yourself time afterwards. Don’t schedule anything intense right after. Your brain will be in a state of “soft mode” for a while.

Enjoy the contrast. There’s something funny about being wrapped in a robe while the wind outside is doing its magic… lean into it.

Set high above downtown Torshavn on gentle slopes blanketed with wildflower-speckled meadows and adorned with a copse of conifers, Hotel Foroyar’s Ress Spa embodies the Nordic spa tradition, but in a distinctly Faroese way.

Wellness in Nature | Faroe Islands Style

Wellness in the Faroe Islands doesn’t always require a booking link or a motivational quote. Mostly, you step outside and let the weather do its thing. But if you want to lean into it properly, here are a few ways to experience wellness the Faroese way: simple, natural, and slightly windswept.

  1. Start with a walk.
Pick any village, any village path. The trails here are basically moving meditation, complete with ocean views, streaming waterfalls, sheep commentary, and air so fresh it should probably be bottled (don't worry, we are not into that here).
  2. Try a hot pot with a view.
You’ll find steaming outdoor tubs scattered around the islands, some next to hotels, some run by locals, and some placed in scenic locations. Bring a towel and a sense of adventure.
  3. Go full Viking: sauna + sea dip.
Floating saunas, stone & grass-roof cabins, and cliffside steam rooms are becoming a thing here. Pair one with a quick plunge into the North Atlantic. You’ll come out wide awake, slightly proud, and extremely alive (Screaming is allowed).
  4. Try forest bathing… Faroese style.
We don’t have a lot of trees, so pick the nearest small grove, breathe deeply, and pretend. The intention counts. Great places include Selatræð, Hoydalar, Tórshavn city park and Kunoy Island.
  5. Visit a beach you didn’t expect to find this far north.
Places like Bø, Sandvík or Syðrugøta offer beaches where the sand is soft, the colours surreal, and the wind determined to style your hair for you. A quiet walk here is better than any meditation app.
  6. Take a ferry just for the ride.
With 18 islands and even more tunnels connecting them, ferries still sail daily to the more remote islands, perfect for a scenic day trip. Sit on deck, feel the salt in the air, let the islands drift past. It’s basically a moving mindfulness session, with better views.
  7. Find calm where the weather is loud.
Wellness can be sitting on a grassy hill with a thermos of something warm, surrounded by faroese flora, watching clouds roll in like a slow-motion theatre production. The show runs 365 days a year.

Outdoor wellness

Wellness here isn’t fancy. It’s real. It’s outside. And it works in every season, whether you’re soaking in a hot tub under summer light or watching winter storms from a sauna window.
