Elduvík - Oyndarfjørður
A long and beautiful ride from Elduvík to Oyndarfjørður with several long climbs


Description of the route
The ride starts in the old village of Elduvík, known for its traditional boat landings, church, and views towards Kalsoy. Cycle out of the village and up a 1.5 km climb. At the top, a long, flat, and peaceful stretch offers excellent views of Funningsbotnur, a small, newer village at the end of the long fjord of the same name. Continue to the junction where the quiet road meets the main road. Follow the main road to the turnoff towards Oyndarfjørður.


The road to Oyndarfjørður begins with a 4 km descent, with gradients of up to 8%. Once at the top, it’s a great spot to pause and take in the breathtaking views in all directions. The final stretch is a long, enjoyable descent to the village of Oyndarfjørður. This small, historic village is home to an old, distinctive Faroese-style church.
Inspiration / Alternative routes
Visit the Rinkusteinar rocking stones on the Oyndarfjørður shoreline. Extend the ride to the small village of Hellurnar on the opposite side of the fjord after visiting Oyndarfjørður.
Elevation profile
The route's elevation profile initially features a series of small climbs followed by a long, steady ascent to around 300 meters. This is followed by a descent that gradually levels out, with minor undulations before a short, steep climb at the very end.
