Oyggjarvegurin – Norðadalur – Leynar – Skælingur
A challenging and scenic ride over the mountains to Skæling
Description of the route
This cycling route on Streymoy starts in the centre of Tórshavn at Visit Tórshavn. The ride begins with an ascent out of the city towards Oyggjarvegur, the old road leading out of Tórshavn before the Kaldbak Tunnel opened in 1992. The first climb is about 4 km long, taking you to higher ground. The route continues along Oyggjarvegur, passing through an open landscape with wind turbines generating green energy for Tórshavn.

The ride continues to the scenic viewpoint at Norðadalsskarð—look out for the small signpost on the left. From here, you’ll have stunning views of several islands, including Koltur, which has been designated the first nature reserve in the Faroe Islands. After enjoying the views, the route leads back down to Oyggjarvegur, past the old quarry at Hundsarabotnur and the long, grey buildings that once served as a military base in the 1960s.
