Viðareiði - Múli
A beautiful and peaceful ride from Viðareiði on Viðoy to Múli on Borðoy.
Description of the route
The ride starts at Hotel Norð in Viðareiði, the northernmost village in the Faroe Islands, known for its wide valley surrounded by high mountains to the north and south. The journey begins by cycling through the picturesque village before heading onto the old road towards Hvannasund. Since the construction of the new tunnel to Viðareiði, this road has no longer been used for regular traffic, making it a peaceful and scenic route for cycling.

As you ride along the coastline, you are treated to magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and fjords, with Borðoy and the remote settlement of Múli visible in the distance. The route continues towards Hvannasund, where you cross the dam connecting Viðoy to Borðoy. From here, the journey follows a gravel road from Norðdepil to Múli, a stretch with no traffic, allowing you to fully appreciate the solitude and natural beauty of the landscape.

Múli, once one of the most remote settlements in the Faroes, was abandoned in 2002 but remains a fascinating and atmospheric place to visit. It gained wider recognition as a filming location for the 2022 crime series Trom (Viaplay), adding a cultural touch to this otherwise nature-focused route.
