FESTIVAL HALL - Course in Bayeux Embroidery
Learn the centuries-old embroidery technique that was used in the Viking Age.
The technique is very suitable for embroidering on tablecloths, curtains, pillows, or for those who want a unique and special way to embroider Faroese clothing.
The technique can be seen on the famous Bayeux Tapestry, which was kept hidden in a chest in the Bayeux Cathedral for many centuries. The Bayeux Tapestry is both a historical and artistic masterpiece. It was likely commissioned by Bishop Odo, half-brother of William the Conqueror, and embroidered in England in the 1070s. The tapestry tells the story of William’s invasion and conquest of England, culminating in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Instructors for the course are Freja Lindahl Pedersen and Amalie Jonnasdatter. Freja is self-taught in Bayeux embroidery, which she has diligently worked on for many years.
The course will be conducted in Danish/Scandinavian (English/Finnish if needed) and will last for 5 hours. Limited space available! The course is not intended for children.
The course will be held at Virkið in Sandur. The price includes materials: a piece of fabric with a design from the Bayeux Tapestry, a frame, needle, and thread. We will provide drinks and some snacks.
