THE NORDIC HOUSE

The Nordic House in Tórshavn is a popular cultural centre which hosts any number of different activities and exhibitions. Its beautiful architecture and excellent use of Nordic building materials is worthy of its own accord; the roof, for example, is a fine example of the use of traditional turf. Local visual artists have exhibited here, including graphic artist, Marius Olsen, who held a large retrospective exhibition a few years ago. The Nordic House is both an exhibition venue for Nordic visual artists as well as world art which is shown during summer exhibitions.  Several exhibitors have taken part in the Venice Biennale, for instance, including the young Finnish artist collective, Nabbteeri, whose humourous, poetic yet highly poignant exhibition, Specters, proved an inspiring event for the Nordic House in 2021. In 2019, video work and installations by Iceland’s Ragnar Kjartansson were displayed whilst, in 2022, Gudrun Hasle of Denmark captivated the audience with her whimsical, fragile yet powerful textile work.
